Neighbourhood Profile

Trinity Bellwoods and West Queen West Real Estate

Trinity Bellwoods and west queen west real estate is generally described as the area directly surrounding Trinity Bellwoods Park. Bordered by Dovercourt to the west and Bathurst to the east, the neighbourhood starts at Queen and moves up to College Street. With it’s mix of independent stores, locally driven cuisine and of course, Trinty Bellwoods park, this neighbourhood is one of the most desired areas to reside in all of Toronto. Once home to creatives, the artistic vibe has stuck with Bellwoods along the West Queen West and Dundas West strip – loft conversions, quirky townhomes and architecturally distinct developments make up the majority of residential dwellings. DIY jewellery stores, raw vegetarian food spots and fair-trade coffee shops are the norm along with culinary anchors like Black Hoof, Carmen and County General. There’s no shortage of places to grab a drink or window shop in this hood.

FOOD & DRINK

Whether you’re looking to splurge or grab a quick bite, your options are abundant in this neighbourhood. For the health conscious, stop by Fresh, Kupfert and Kim or Freshii after your Hatha class at Yoga Tree. Cheat day? No problem. Burger’s Priest, P&L Burger, Banh Mi Boys or Fancy Franks should do the trick. Alto is the perfect spot if you’re looking to impress on a first date (their tasting style menu is constantly changing), or head over to Aji Sai or To-Ne for a casual AYCE sushi contest with your significant other. In the mood for tacos and margaritas? Some of the city’s best Mexican can be found at Milagro. If you’re on your way to a picnic in the park, Sud Forno‘s (Terroni’s grab and go counterpart) pizza slices and sandwiches are the perfect accompaniment.

“Pizza Marinara, the simplest of offerings – tomato sauce and basil – is light as air, crispy and savoury. Most pizzerias don’t offer this cheese-less pizza because their sauce can’t truly hold it’s own. Here, the sauce is proudly presented as the feature item.”

ENTERTAINMENT

Whether you’re a music junkie or just enjoy a live band once in a while, there are tons of spots to check out in West Queen West. The Horseshoe Tavern is an iconic venue, it maintains a heritage status and has hosted both local bands and rock superstars. Tattoo and Cameron House are both intimate venues that hold shows almost nightly. The Rex is Toronto’s premiere jazz and blues bar that doubles (triples?) as a hotel and restaurant. If you’re not quite sure what you’re in the mood for, but enjoy pool, great food and music, make a stop at The Rivoli.

“In November 1947, local entrepreneur Jack Starr purchased a small piece of property at 368-370 Queen Street West. With the objective of opening up a restaurant-tavern, specializing in prime rib roast beef, with slaw, & maybe some live music on the side, he named it The Horseshoe Tavern.”

LIVING

Built between 1880 and 1905, small to medium size Victorian homes line the leafy avenues and bustling main streets of Trinity Bellwoods. Due to the sheer size of Trinity Bellwoods Park, many homes in the area either front or back on to the park, offering beautiful surroundings, even if the weekend action in the park can distract somewhat from nature. The neighbourhood’s larger homes can be found on Shaw Street, a tree-lined boulevard that is twice the width of the narrow avenues of downtown Toronto.

West Queen West is home to both hard loft conversions, new condos and houses. The infamous Candy Factory, Chocolate Company Lofts and Trinity Lofts feature classic open style layouts, loaded with character like exposed brick and wood beams. Townhomes and semi-detached houses line the side streets along the main strip, both fixer uppers (perfect for both professional and budding DIYers) and beautiful, modern renos. The Harlowe, Edition Richmond and TEN93 Queen Street West are just a few of the pre-construction projects that will be completed in the coming years.
